Back when the new library building was built in 2000, a portion of the second floor was set aside as an unfinished “shell” space with anticipation that community growth would find us needing this space in about 20 years. The library’s district indeed has grown, and we are still walking on the original carpet in most of the building some 22 years later. It’s time to replace the carpet and furnish the shell space!
The Board and Library Administration have been saving money from each year’s budget in anticipation of this work, which will be in two phases in 2023. One chunk will hopefully occur from March to May, and the rest from Mid-August to November. The end result will combine all books for adults on the second floor and provide unique individual study areas for remote and freelance workers and students. The first floor will feature an improved teen area, give middle schoolers a place of their own, and provide new seating and collaborative spaces for all ages. Details about the project and the impact it will have on the availability of materials and study spaces will be posted here on this page as work progresses.
Current Status: Bidding closes on December 13, 2022 at 2:30pm. The bids will be vetted and recommendations will be given to the board, who will select the winning bid(s) at a special meeting on Monday, Dec. 19, at 6:00pm.
