January: Quilt Maps. Historically, quilts could be more than just something to keep you warm. They could be secret maps used to help people in dangerous positions travel. Freedom Quilts were used by enslaved people to escape to the north. The quilts held secret messages and directions that only those who knew of the underground railroad could interpret. Can you read a quilt map to find a secret location?
These activities are designed for grades 4-8. Patrons of all ages may enjoy the activity, but younger children must have adult supervision.
The Library is closed in observance of the holiday.
