Borrowing Materials4 Fremont Library cards fanned out, red, blue, yellow and black.

You must have a library card in order to check out materials. The library honors any library card in Illinois, and may also honor some from Wisconsin. Click here to learn more about library cards.

Don't have your card handy? You can register your Illinois driver’s license or State ID to use in lieu of library card, or use the Library App (Apple only) or Google Wallet to display your library card barcode from your phone.

We also have a self-checkout system in the Kids area and at the Checkout Desk, or you can use your smart phone to check items out to yourself! Download the MeeScan app and use it the next time you are in the Library to bypass the Checkout Desk.

There are no late fees at Fremont Public Library.

Returning Materials

The library has three options for returning materials:

  1. Use the return slots inside the main vestibule of the library (during regular library hours)
  2. Use the outside return slots in the Drive-Up area on the west side of the building (during or after library hours)
  3. At the Drive-Up Window (during regular library hours)

Please note: Kits and other items that are fragile or cannot fit in the drops may be returned to the Checkout Desk or the Drive-Up Window during regular library hours.

Auto-Renewals

  • Renewable items will automatically renew 3 days before they are due if no one else is waiting for the item.
  • Choose email or text notification to receive a notice with the new due dates and/or a list of those titles that could not be renewed.
  • Even if you do not have email or text notifications selected, your items will still be auto-renewed. Check your account for more information.

Freedom From Fines!

  • We do not charge late fees*, but items still have due dates.
  • You are expected to return or renew items by their due dates.
  • If you have an item out more than 2 weeks past its due date, you can't check out anymore until the item is returned.
45 days after an item was due, the item will be considered lost, and you will be billed. At that point, you may return the item or pay the bill.
  • If you find a lost item within 1 week after paying to replace it, you may receive a refund.

*Materials obtained via InterLibrary Loan may have late fees or other charges from the lending library.

InterLibrary Loan (ILL)

You can borrow from other libraries and have your items brought to Fremont!

Fremont Library is part of the Computer Cooperative Services (CCS) Consortium, so we can seamlessly order most materials from any of the libraries that share our catalog.

You can also borrow from libraries in the Find More Illinois catalog, through the link in the CCS catalog if the item is not in our consortium.

Fremont cardholders may also order items from libraries outside the consortium and Find More Illinois database by contacting the Adult Help Desk at 847-566-8702 or through the chat feature. To see if the material may be available at another library, you can search WorldCat. For the library's policy about InterLibrary Loan, click here.

Borrowing eMaterials

Fremont cardholders have a wide array of materials available to them. CLick here to view the rules and go to the apps.

Libraries are restricted by the vendors of eBooks and other streaming/downloadable materials to only lend to their own cardholders.
