These are the honeybees on the library’s roof! The bees have access to the flowers in the area, yet are safe from predators and mischief-makers. We are still learning to harvest the honey to sell or give away. Stay-tuned!

John, our beekeeper, pumps pine smoke into the hive to calm the bees. He always puts on his full suit and gloves before opening the hive to check on them. We’re lucky to see honeycombs with a bright orange color, which comes from the pollen that the bees turn into honey. The hole John points to with his gloved finger shows where a fully grown bee ate the honey to emerge into the world. Some of our bees' honeycombs have unusual shapes, which might suggest a bit of chaos, but John assures us our library bees are healthy! We may incorporate a live cam, so you can keep an eye on our bees–stay tuned!
