Vital Records published in The Herald, 1971 - 1984
The Herald was a weekly newspaper, published by Paddock Circle Newspapers Inc. It came in several editions, designed to appeal to residents of several Lake County towns. The library owns the microfilm for this newspaper for the time period April 1971 through March 1984.
In December 2002, Fremont Public Library received a grant from the Illinois State Library to extract the vital records information from this microfilm and make it available on the library's website to the general public. Information about births, engagements, weddings, anniversaries and deaths appears in these indexes. Rather than put all of this information in one megafile, we have decided to break the information into four smaller, more managable files:
Deaths 1971 - 1977 (236 KB, complete)
Deaths 1978 - 1984 (200 KB, in progress)
Births 1971 - 1984 (374 KB, in progress)
Engagements, Weddings and Anniversaries (103 KB, in progress)
How do I get a copy of the complete obituary?
The microfilms on located in the Adult Services Department at the library. People may come in to make their own copies. People from outside our immediate area may request copies by mail; please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
You must include the following information:
- Person's name
- Date the obituary was published
- Name of the newspaper.
Funding for this grant was awarded to Fremont Public Library by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
